MANAVLOK aims to solve the socio-economic problems of the community and to provide a better life to them. Manavlok’s philosophy is reflected in its name: MANAVLOK, which is the shortened form of “MArathwada NAVnirman LOKayat”, where ‘NAVNIRMAN’ means “Creation” and ‘LOKAYAT’, denotes “People’s opinion”. Manavlok thus symbolizes a new idea or an experiment in rural development, whereby villagers themselves are the focus of action and control.
In the early 1970s, a socialist group of youth began seeking solutions to social and political problems of the rural community with the general aim of achieving a more just and happy society. After nearly 20 years of effort and agitations, they concluded that socio-political change was not possible without economic change. With this point of view in mind, they established “MANAVLOK”in 1982, a voluntary organization for the socio-economic upliftment of the rural poor.Dr. Dwarkadas Lohiya popularly known as “Babuji” laid the foundation of organization when he was studying in an Ayurveda collegeof medicine in Nanded.
