Our source of inspiration Dr. Dwarkadas Shaligram Lohiya has been working in rural development, especially drought and migrant labor, since 1972 in Marathwada. Dr. Lohiya felt the need to start a professional social work course and to prepare trained social workers from the same district who understood the severity of the problems. Thus, MANAVLOK’s College of Social Work was established in 1999 as an extension of MANAVLOK’s educational activities. MANAVLOK’s College of Social Work imparts two years of full-time professional course in Social Work education at Post Graduation level. The intake capacity of the college for MSW's first year is 40 and for MSW's second year 40. Accordingly, these students are admitted to their respective classes every year. The college is located in a rural area, its primary aim is to provide education to rural students and prepare them to face the challenges at local and regional levels. Strong fieldwork is one of the identities of the college, apart from regular classroom teaching. The college provides opportunities for the students to apply social work methods at the institutional, open community, and village levels. The exposure of MANAVLOK’s intervention for the upliftment of poor, needy, and rural community facilitate social work education to strengthen skill and values of social work to encompass social development and promotion of social welfare and social justice. The college strives for a better experience for the students in the various fields which require intervention at the micro and macro levels.
