However, it was realized within a year after starting the work that women in search of relief were often accompanied by their children. So a shelter for both was the need of the hour. Free Legal Aid and Family Counseling Centre helped several women in trouble, (single/unmarried forced mothers, victims of sexual offences and domestic violence, and so many others) by providing free legal services and also in obtaining their rights, along with their children. However, their problems do not end with this. Rather, new challenges frighten them and make them further insecure, particularly about the future of their children. To solve this need, it was important for Manaswini to start a shelter home for them so that they could be sustained by the earnings of their labour and skills. So far, more than 800 women of this stature have benefited from this shelter home and are living their own lives with all honour and liberty. Unfortunately and ironically, women and even young married girls cannot find support in the house of their parents. They simply continue to suffer it all, cursing their destiny, but they can't return to their parents' home or anywhere else. The dilemma is whether to live a humiliating life at the house of their parents or the concentration camp of their in-laws. Many helpless poor women have chosen the alternative of committing suicide to end their miserable and unbearable life. Dilasa shelter home provides not only sympathetic and pitied support but also a life of self-esteem to stand on their legs by utilizing their labour and skills of their choice and capacity. They get moral and mental strength here, as they are given a voice and choice along with their identity and individuality. They get a true home here with love and care, as well as solace in domestic relationships with so many others and their children. Every woman is even provided with opportunities to continue the education of their choice.
